The Premchand Research Award in Hindi Studies, housed in the Institute for South Asia Studies, UC Berkeley, is an award to support undergraduate or graduate research in Hindi literature. This award is funded by an anonymous donor and named in honor of Munshi Premchand (d. 1936), a towering Hindi literary figure.
Award Amount:
The award provides for a $2000 grant to an undergraduate or graduate student undertaking research on Hindi literature in India. Applicants must be enrolled in an accredited institution in the US, Canada, or Europe. Funds may be used towards flights and/or living and research expenses in India.

The application process will begin on February 1, 2025 with the deadline for submission of application materials for travel to take place during the summer of 2025 (i.e., May through August 2025) or the 2025-26 academic year (i.e. August 2025 through May 2026), is April 1, 2025 by 5 pm.
