The Berkeley-AIPS Urdu Language Program in Pakistan (BULPIP-AIPS), run in conjunction with the America Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS) and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), completed its eighth and final year in 2021. It will not longer be accepting any applications.
This report outlines the history of the first five years of the program, introduces the people who help run it and the people who have benefited from it, the program's spending patterns, curriculum, participation and learning statistics, and offers testimonials from a diverse group of past participants. The American Institute of Pakistan Studies (AIPS), established in 1973, is a bi-national research and educational organization with a mission to promote academic study of Pakistan in the US and to encourage scholarly exchange between the US and Pakistan. To fulfill this mission, AIPS provides research fellowships to American researchers, administers lectureships, and sponsors academic conferences. It is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt, autonomous organization and a member of the Council of American Overseas Research Centers.
Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS)
The Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), is a private research university located in the vicinity of Defence Housing Authority of Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. Established in 1985, by sponsors belonging to the country’s leading private and public sector corporations, and developed as an institution, which would provide rigorous academic and intellectual training and a viable alternative to education comparable to leading universities across the world, it is one of the largest universities in Pakistan, whose research, service, and graduates are a fountain of leadership for Pakistan and the world.
